Anyone aged 16 or over is welcome to join Batala Liverpool. No
previous drumming or musical experience is necessary as players are
taught how to drum and dance samba-reggae style.
When joining us you will be taught by our Musical Director, Ritchie Tunstall, in
an environment that welcomes everybody. After enough training, all
members have the opportunity to play at events across the UK and
beyond.
When you first join the band, all you will need is a pair of ear
plugs-you can bring your own or purchase them from the band.
Players are required to pay subs at each rehearsal (discounted for
students /unemployed). For the first 3 months everything else is
provided by the band. After this time, if you decide to become a
permanent member, you'll need to buy the following items:
- Sticks/beaters
- Straps
- Knee pads
- Costume
Kit can be bought from the band at a total cost of around £60
and we are happy to spread this cost for you.
Drums are always provided by the band so you do not need to buy
one, but they are available to buy if you would like to do so.
Players do not receive a payment for gigs as this is
a community band, however travel costs and accommodation will be
covered for all performances out side of
Liverpool.
The band also tries to subsidise trips abroad, to
enable you to experience the international World of
Batala
